Italian Translation Services

Certified Italian to English translation for USCIS filings, US court cases, university applications and credential evaluations, working from documents issued in Italy, San Marino, the Vatican and Italian-speaking Switzerland.

DHCTranslations translates Italian documents into English for US filings from $54 per document, with the signed translator certificate and the PDF included; a document past 400 words is charged at $0.12 per word. The certificate gives the translator's name and signature, the date and our US address, and it is what a USCIS officer or an evaluator checks against the original.

    Pricing

What a certified Italian translation costs

Certified translations start at $54 per document: from $0.12 per word after the first 400 words into English, and from $0.14 per word for English into another language, with some pairs quoted higher.

Certification is the translator's signed statement, and it is included in the price.

A translation for USCIS, a US court or a US university is certified by the translator's signed statement, and nothing further is added to the quote.

    Prepared for US filings

What comes with a certified Italian translation

An Italian order is returned with a signed statement of accuracy that names the translator and carries their signature, the date and our contact details.

    What the certification includes

    • Signed statement of accuracy: the translator's name, signature and date, their CIOL or ITI membership number, our company stamp and our contact details.
    • Seals and signatures: a municipal stamp, a registrar's signature and the protocol number are part of the record. Where a seal is a graphic rather than words, it is described in square brackets at the point it covers.
    • Annotazioni: the notes written in the margin of an Italian civil record mark a later marriage, a divorce or a correction. They are translated at the margin where they were written, since moving them would change what the record says.
    • Certified PDF: the certified file is emailed at no extra cost, which is what a US filing accepts. A printed set can be arranged if a receiving body insists on paper, and is quoted per order.

    Document names

The Italian documents US applicants send

Italian has one written standard, and the documents US applicants send carry the name the municipal office gave them. The table below sets those names against the English, because a US form asking for a birth certificate is answered by the Italian atto di nascita.

Variants we handle Italian - Italy Italian - San Marino Italian - Vatican City Italian - Switzerland (Ticino) Italian - Croatia (Istria)

    Birth or marriage record

    What usually appears
Comune heading, annotazioni in the margin, the copy type named
    What we do with it
Translated in full, with every annotation where it sits on the page

    Criminal record

    What usually appears
Certificato del casellario giudiziale, issue office and date
    What we do with it
The office and date kept, and any stamp or signature described in brackets

    Academic record

    What usually appears
Pagella or libretto, marks out of 30, lode where awarded
    What we do with it
Every subject and mark rendered, with the 0-30 scale explained in a note

    Court judgment

    What usually appears
Tribunale heading, RG number, judge and hearing date
    What we do with it
Kept in the order the tribunal used, so the original page can be followed

These are the records a US file usually needs, and the English name for each is the one an officer will recognize. The Italian name is in the middle column, so the copy you hold can be matched to the row.

    Frequently asked questions

DHCTranslations handles Italian records in the US and returns each one in English with the certificate the translator signed. Tell us which office will read it and a written price is sent before any work begins. Every page of the original is covered, front and back.

A single document costs $54, translation, certificate and PDF together. Past 400 words the rate is $0.12 per word into English, and $0.14 for an Italian version of a US document. Where several records are sent at once, the quote covers the words in the whole set.

For one page, payment before 4pm ET on a weekday usually brings the PDF the same day. A group of civil records is normally ready on the next business day. Long judgments and full academic files are given a firm date when the quote is issued.

Yes. Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) the agency wants every page in English and a certificate signed by the translator, giving competence, date and contact details. That certificate is part of the file we send, not a letter to request afterwards.

An estratto per riassunto is a summary extract of an Italian civil record; a copia integrale is the full copy, including the annotations and the parentage details. The copy in hand is translated whole, and the certificate records which of the two forms it was.

Notes written in the margin of a civil record at the municipality, recording a later marriage, a divorce, a name correction or a death. They are part of the certificate, so they are translated where they sit rather than listed at the end of the document.

Yes. The certificate is translated in full, with the issuing office, the date and any stamp or signature kept or described in brackets, so a US reader sees what was on the page rather than a summary of it.

Yes. Records from San Marino, the Vatican and Ticino use Italian but their own headings and office names, and those are translated as issued rather than converted to the Italian format. The country of issue is stated on the certificate.

Not at all. A flat scan, or a photograph taken straight on, of every page and any reverse is enough; the certified PDF is then emailed to you. Keeping the originals at home avoids postage, delay and the risk of losing a document that cannot be replaced quickly.

Yes. Nearly every US filing needs that direction. A single page is $54, and text beyond the 400-word allowance is $0.12 per word. The result is American English that reads naturally, rather than Italian word order carried across intact.

Yes, at $0.14 per word. The Italian version carries the same translator's statement as the other direction and is used for registrations in Italy, San Marino and Ticino. Tell us the receiving office, because its name has to appear correctly in Italian.
