Legal Translation Services
Legal translation is judged on precision rather than fluency: the defined terms have to survive, the parties have to be named exactly once, and nothing may be tidied away. We translate the document in full, from another language into English or from English into another language, certify it on request, and price it from $54 per document.

What a Legal Document Needs From a Translation
A court, a counterparty and an insurer all read the same translated contract, and each of them is looking for the place where the two versions differ. The translation exists to make sure there is no such place.
What the Translation Covers
-
Defined Terms: A term defined in the agreement is translated the same way every time it appears, because a defined term that drifts is a dispute waiting to be filed.
-
Parties and Recitals: Entity names, registration numbers, addresses and the recitals are rendered in full, with no abbreviation we invented to make a sentence flow.
-
Clause Structure: Numbering, schedules and annexes are kept as the original has them, so a citation to clause 7.3 refers to the same clause in both versions.
-
Certification: A signed translator statement is added where the document is filed as evidence, in the wording the receiving court or agency asks for.
Before You Order
Legal documents carry the requirements in the instruction rather than in the text, so the instruction travels with the file.
-
The Whole Agreement: Schedules, annexes and signature pages included, since a contract without its schedule is only half the document.
-
What It Is For: Negotiation, filing, due diligence or enforcement each imply a different level of certification and a different deadline.
-
Any Court Requirement: A local rule on the form of the translator's declaration overrides ours, so send it and we will follow it.
Where a case is live, say so: a filing deadline changes the order of work.

Frequently asked questions
DHCTranslations translates contracts, orders, depositions and affidavits for US firms and companies from our New York base, and certifies the translation with a signed statement when it is going into a filing. Send the document with the deadline.
From $54 per document at DHCTranslations, with $0.12 per word into English and $0.14 per word from English into another language above 400 words. Certification is included in the figure rather than billed as an extra, and a schedule-heavy agreement is quoted on its total word count.
A short order or letter confirmed before 4pm ET is usually returned by DHCTranslations the same business day. A forty-page agreement with schedules takes two to three business days. Where a hearing date is fixed, tell us at the outset so the schedule is built backwards from it.
The translator who produced the work signs a statement naming themselves, the languages and the date, and confirming that the translation is accurate and complete. It is the same certificate a court or agency reads, not a company stamp standing in for a person.
Yes. Courts and agencies differ on what a translator's declaration must say, so send the local rule or the clerk's instruction and we will use that wording. Our standard declaration is the fallback, not the only option.
Yes, and those orders often change after delivery. Where a clause is revised, we translate the revised clause against the version already delivered so the two remain consistent, rather than producing a second translation that reads differently from the first.
Files arrive through a secure upload, are opened only by the linguist and the reviewer, and are held for a maximum of 90 days. An NDA is signed where you require one, and we will use your paper rather than ours if that is simpler for your legal team.
It has to, or citations stop working. Numbering, schedules and annex references follow the source document, and where a language forces a sentence to be split we keep the numbering attached to the same content rather than renumbering the agreement.
Yes, and they are priced by word count like any other document. A transcript in question-and-answer format is kept in that format, with speaker labels translated consistently, because a reader needs to see who said what rather than a narrative summary.
Then it may need no translation at all, and a foreign court or agency may still ask for a certified copy. Tell us where it is going: in some cases the answer is a certificate rather than a translation, and we will say so instead of quoting for work you do not need.
