    Knowledge Base

    Frequently asked questions

DHCTranslations prepares certified translations for USCIS filings from our New York base, with a signed statement of accuracy on every page and contact details an officer can check. Send the scans and the form number, and the quote comes back in writing before any work starts.

Any foreign-language evidence filed with USCIS has to carry a complete English translation and the translator's signed certification. That covers birth, marriage and divorce certificates, police records, court orders, academic transcripts and bank statements, whether the filing is a green card, a naturalization application or a family petition.

No. USCIS requires a translator who is competent to translate, and universities and courts apply the same rule, so a self-translation or one written by a relative is normally refused. What they check is the signed certification naming the translator, the date and the statement of accuracy.

No. Clear scans, photographs or PDFs are enough, and the certified file comes back as a PDF you can upload to the filing the same day. Posting irreplaceable originals adds risk and days to the job without changing what the receiving body sees.

From $54 at DHCTranslations for a single-page certificate, with the certified PDF included. A document longer than 400 words is charged at $0.12 per word into English and $0.14 per word from English into another language, and a multi-page set is quoted on the total word count.

A single page confirmed with cleared payment before 4pm ET on a weekday is usually emailed the same day by DHCTranslations. Longer files are given a date in the quote, and a filing deadline is worked back from the date the receiving body needs the document in hand.

Yes. Tables, stamps, seals and handwritten margin notes are reproduced in place, and anything that cannot be set as text is described in brackets so the officer reading it can follow the original page. Where the layout carries meaning, the scanned page is rebuilt rather than retyped.

Yes. ECFMG and CGFNS each publish their own format for medical diplomas, transcripts and certificates of good standing, and the certificate has to name the qualification exactly as the school issued it. We translate for both, and the wording follows the checklist each body publishes.

In US practice, yes. Official translation is the phrase a form uses when it wants a translation the agency can rely on, and what the agency then checks is the signed certification, the translator's details and the date. Every translation we issue is certified.

There is no federal licensing body for translators in the United States, and USCIS does not require one. What the agency checks is the signed certification: the translator's name, the statement that the translation is complete and accurate, and a way to contact the translator.

    By location

Certification does not change with the city: the same signed statement travels with the translation wherever the receiving office sits. The city pages name the courts and agencies a reader there deals with.
