Tamil Translation Services

Certified Tamil to English translation for USCIS filings, US court cases, university applications and credential evaluations, working from records issued in Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia.

Tamil records are translated into English at DHCTranslations from $54 a document, with the signed certificate and the PDF included; past 400 words the rate is $0.12 per word. The certificate names the office and the country that issued the page, which matters where a certificate was bilingual before we touched it.

What a certified Tamil translation costs

Certified translations start at $54 per document: from $0.12 per word after the first 400 words into English, and from $0.14 per word for English into another language, with some pairs quoted higher.

Certification is the translator's signed statement, and it is included in the price.

A translation for USCIS, a US court or a US university is certified by the translator's signed statement, and nothing further is added to the quote.

What comes with a certified Tamil translation

A Tamil order is returned with a signed statement of accuracy, and the certificate says which country issued the record and which languages were already printed on it.

    What the certification includes

    • Signed statement of accuracy: the translator's name, signature and date, their CIOL or ITI membership number, our company stamp and our contact details.
    • Initials, not surnames: many Tamil names carry the father's initial where a US form expects a family name, so R. Karthik is Karthik, son of a father whose name begins with R. The initial is kept where the page puts it and expanded in a note.
    • S/O, D/O and W/O: a certificate records a relationship as son of, daughter of or wife of, followed by the relative's name. Each is translated in full rather than shortened, because a US form asks for parents in boxes of their own.
    • Certified PDF: the certified file is emailed at no extra cost, which is what a US filing accepts. A printed set can be arranged if a receiving body insists on paper, and is quoted per order.

    Three issuing systems

Tamil documents by country of issue

Tamil is an official language in Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka and Singapore, and the same certificate is laid out differently in each. The table below sets the three systems against the records US applicants send and against the English each becomes.

Variants we handle Tamil - India (Tamil Nadu) Tamil - Sri Lanka Tamil - Singapore Tamil - Malaysia

    Birth certificate

    What usually appears
Tamil Nadu prints Tamil and English on one page; Sri Lanka prints Sinhala, Tamil and English
    What we do with it
Translated whole, with each language block noted and the registrar kept

    Community or nativity certificate

    What usually appears
A revenue department certificate from Tamil Nadu, usually in Tamil only
    What we do with it
Translated complete, with the tahsildar's office and the certificate number named

    Academic record

    What usually appears
Mark sheets and a transfer certificate, with subjects printed in Tamil and English
    What we do with it
Every subject and mark translated, with the Tamil headings given in English

    Police clearance

    What usually appears
A Sri Lankan police clearance, or an Indian police clearance certificate from the passport office
    What we do with it
Translated complete, with the authority, the reference and the date kept

The country decides the form: Tamil Nadu issues a bilingual page, Sri Lanka a trilingual one, and a Malaysian certificate is usually in English already. The certificate we sign says which system issued the page you sent.

    Frequently asked questions

DHCTranslations translates Tamil records into English at our US offices, and the translator who handles the file signs the certificate. Send every page, front and back, and say which office will read it, since a revenue certificate and a school record are read for different things.

A document is $54, which includes the translation, the signed statement and the PDF. Past 400 words the charge is $0.12 per word into English, and an English document rendered into Tamil is $0.14. A set of certificates is quoted on the words in the whole set.

A single page paid for before 4pm ET on a weekday is normally back the same day. A set of mark sheets, or a birth certificate with annexures, usually follows the next business day, and a court file is quoted with a date.

Yes. 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) asks for every page in English and a certificate the translator signed, naming their competence with a date and contact details. A page that was already bilingual is translated in full, so the English is never left as the half the issuing office happened to print.

Yes, the whole page. Tamil Nadu certificates carry English headings and sometimes English entries, and Sri Lankan ones carry three languages. Translating only the Tamil would leave gaps, so everything is translated and the certificate notes which blocks were already in English.

The initial stays where the page puts it, with a note saying whose name it stands for. US forms assume a family name, so the certificate identifies which element is the given name and which is the father's, rather than leaving an officer to guess.

Wife of, used to link a married woman to her husband's name. It is translated as wife of and never turned into a surname, and the husband's name is reproduced exactly as the page gives it, initials included.

It is a Tamil Nadu revenue document recording the community a person belongs to. It is often Tamil only and partly handwritten, so it is translated as written, with the tahsildar's office and the certificate number kept and no attempt to explain the category beyond the words used.

It prints Sinhala, Tamil and English on one page, and the three do not always agree: a name can be transliterated two ways. Both the Tamil and the English are translated, and where they differ the certificate records the difference rather than choosing one silently.

Two documents carry the name: a Sri Lankan clearance issued by the police headquarters, and an Indian police clearance certificate issued through the passport office. Send the one the agency named, and our certificate identifies which of them was translated.

Yes, at $0.14 per word. Affidavits and powers of attorney are the usual orders, and the Tamil is written in the register an Indian or Sri Lankan office expects, with the English left in place where the original form has both columns.
