Sinhala Translation Services

Certified Sinhala to English translation for USCIS filings, US court cases, WES and NACES evaluations, and medical or nursing credentialing. Sri Lankan certificates are translated as issued, with the register number and the identity number read correctly.

DHCTranslations translates Sinhala documents in the US, and the identity number is where a reader gets lost: a woman's card carries a day of the year that does not exist, because five hundred is added to it. A document costs $54, statement and PDF included.

    Pricing

What a certified Sinhala translation costs

Certified translations start at $54 per document: from $0.12 per word after the first 400 words into English, and from $0.14 per word for English into another language, with some pairs quoted higher.

Certification is the translator's signed statement, and it is included in the price.

A translation for USCIS, a US court or a US university is certified by the translator's signed statement, and nothing further is added to the quote.

What a certified Sinhala translation is checked for

A number that encodes a date in an unfamiliar way, and a name that shrinks between documents, are the two places a Sri Lankan file is doubted. The certificate explains both where they appear rather than in a covering note.

    What the certification includes

    • Signed statement of accuracy: the translator's name, signature and date, their CIOL or ITI membership number, our company stamp and our contact details.
    • The number is decoded once: the digits are copied exactly and the rule behind them is stated, including the addition that marks a woman's card, so no reader mistakes a valid number for a typo.
    • The name is compared: where one document shortens a name that another prints in full, the certificate says which is which, so a shortened form is not read as a different person.
    • Certified PDF: the certified file is emailed at no extra cost, which is what a US filing accepts. A printed set can be arranged if a receiving body insists on paper, and is quoted per order.

    Numbers and long names

The day that is not a day

A Sri Lankan identity number records the year of birth and the day of that year rather than the date, and for a woman five hundred is added to the day. So a card can read day 560 of a 365-day year, which looks like an error and is not: subtract the five hundred and the date appears. A US reader comparing that number with a written date needs the rule stated, or the two look like different people.

    Birth certificate

    On the Sinhala document
    උප්පැන්න සහතිකය
    Issued by
the divisional secretariat, from the registrar general's records

    Marriage certificate

    On the Sinhala document
    විවාහ සහතිකය
    Issued by
    the registrar who solemnized it

    Death certificate

    On the Sinhala document
    මරණ සහතිකය
    Issued by
    the registrar for the district

    National identity card

    On the Sinhala document
    ජාතික හැඳුනුම්පත
    Issued by
the department for registration of persons

    Academic certificate

    On the Sinhala document
    අධ්‍යාපන සහතිකය
    Issued by
    the school or the university

Two further habits of Sri Lankan paperwork matter. A name often runs to four elements or more, and the identity card truncates what the birth certificate prints in full, so the same person appears shorter on one document than the other. And an older card carries nine digits followed by a letter rather than twelve digits, which is not a forgery but an earlier format, still in use for many holders.

    Frequently asked questions

DHCTranslations handles Sinhala documents in the US, including registrar general certificates, identity cards and university records, and each translation comes with a signed statement naming the translator.

Because a woman's number adds five hundred to the day of the year, so day 560 means day 60. Subtract the five hundred and the date is there; the card is correct and the addition is how the number records sex.

DHCTranslations charges $54 for a document up to 400 words, then $0.12 per word into English or $0.14 from English into Sinhala. The statement and the PDF are part of what is charged.

Because the card truncates a name that runs to four elements or more, while the certificate prints it in full. Both name one person, and the translation says which document carries the fuller form.

No. That is the earlier format, and it remains valid for holders who were issued one. Both the older and the newer numbers are copied as printed, with the format named.

The Sinhala entries, since that is what the registrar wrote. Where an English column differs, the difference is recorded instead of being resolved silently.

Yes, and it is handled as its own language rather than treated as a version of Sinhala. Families in Sri Lanka often hold papers in both, and the certificate names which language each page uses.

USCIS takes the full English text with a translator's signed statement, both of which are supplied with the order. Send the certificate as issued, including the register number.

The certificate and the transcript are translated subject by subject, with the Sri Lankan grading noted where the school or university used it, so the evaluator makes the comparison.

Yes. DHCTranslations charges $0.14 per word from English into Sinhala, written by a native speaker rather than adapted from Tamil.
