Diploma and Academic Certificate Translation

Certified translation of a diploma, a degree certificate or a graduation certificate for a WES or NACES evaluation, a university application or a state licensing board.

The diploma translated with its seals, the awarding institution, the degree title and any classification printed on it. Where a transcript is also required, the two are translated to agree, because an evaluator reads them side by side. From $54 per document.

    Academic Credentials

Diploma Translation for a Credential Evaluation

An evaluator is matching a foreign qualification to a US equivalent, so the exact degree title and the awarding body matter more than the wording around them. The translation gives both as printed and explains a classification rather than converting it.

    What the translation covers

    • Degree Title: the award is translated as it is named on the document, with the original title kept in brackets where an English equivalent would mislead.

    • Awarding Institution: the university or examining board, its faculty and its location as printed, since an evaluator checks the institution before the qualification.

    • Seals and Signatures: the embossed seal, the rector's or registrar's signature and the certificate number are described in the position they occupy.

    • Classification: an honors class or a grade band is translated with a short note rather than converted into a US grade point average.

    Before you order

An evaluation service sets the rule, and the rule is usually about what has to accompany the diploma.

    • Diploma and Transcript: WES and NACES normally want both, since a diploma says what was awarded and a transcript says how well.

    • Language of Issue: a diploma printed in English still needs translating where the awarding body, the faculty or the degree title is written in another language.

    • Nursing and Medicine: CGFNS and ECFMG add requirements of their own, and the credential pages here set out what each one asks for.

A photograph of the diploma inside its folder is fine as long as the seal and the signature are legible.

Prices are per document and start at $54 — see what a translation costs.

    Frequently asked questions

DHCTranslations translates diplomas and degree certificates from a New York base for WES, NACES and university admissions, with a signed statement naming the translator attached to each award.

An award of up to 400 words is $54 at DHCTranslations, and the per-word rate of $0.12 applies past that for translation into English. A transcript ordered at the same time is quoted as its own document.

They are separate documents and are usually both wanted. An evaluator uses the diploma to establish what was awarded and the transcript to establish the grades behind it, so one without the other is a partial file.

WES asks for a complete translation of each academic document with a signed statement from the translator, and DHCTranslations documents have been accepted by WES and NACES. The evaluation decision belongs to them.

No. The grade is translated as printed and a note explains the scale, because a conversion made by a translation company is not one an evaluator will use. They do the conversion themselves.

Sometimes. If the institution, the faculty or the degree title is in another language, the document is not fully in English and an evaluator will ask for a translation. Send it and we will say which case applies.

Yes, and boards often ask for the syllabus or the transcript beside it. Naming the board at the quote means the statement is written for the reader who will act on it.

The diploma is still translatable, since the translation describes the document in front of the translator. Whether an evaluator will accept an award from a closed institution is their decision, not ours.

A single award approved before 4pm ET is normally sent the same day. The diploma and transcript pair takes about one business day, and the deadline in the quote is an estimate rather than a commitment.

Yes. Medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy qualifications all appear in evaluation files, and the credential pages here set out what ECFMG, CGFNS and the state boards expect to see.
