What a certified Somali translation costs
Certified translations start at £40 per document: from £0.09 per word after the first 400 words into English, and from £0.10 per word for English into another language, with some pairs quoted higher.
Notarisation, where the receiving body asks for it, is quoted separately because it depends on the document and on notary availability.
FCDO apostille is available with our Express Service (usually 6-7 working days) or Urgent Service (usually 3-4 working days). Both are estimates: the real time depends on the document, the language pair and the level of certification, and is confirmed in your quote.

Certified Somali translations for UK desks
Every Somali order carries a certification page naming the translator, the language pair and the date, with the Somali spelling of each name shown beside the English one.
What every Somali order includes
- Signed statement of accuracy: the translator's name, signature and date, their CIOL or ITI membership number, our company stamp and our contact details.
- Name form fixed: where Mohamed, Mohammed and Muhammad all appear in a bundle, one English spelling is fixed and used throughout, with variants noted.
- Stamps described: faded or partly legible stamps are described in a translator's note rather than guessed at, since a caseworker needs to know what was visible.
- PDF and post: the certified PDF is emailed at no extra cost; printed copies are optional, by first class or tracked post.

Somali: a language whose paper trail was interrupted
Somali files are built from district certificates, sworn declarations and travel documents rather than from a central register, and the civil registry has not functioned since 1991. Each row pairs a record with the Somali wording it carries.

A sworn declaration is often the only evidence of a birth date where no register exists, and it names the declarant and the court that took it. Both are reproduced in the translation.
What our clients say
Rated 4.9/5 from 314 verified reviews for Home Office applications, court-ready Statements of Truth and UK ENIC submissions.
“The district certificate was handwritten and partly faded, and the translator described the stamp in a note so the caseworker could see why the scan looked poor.”
Amina H.
“My sworn declaration was translated with the court, the date sworn and the declarant named, and it was accepted alongside the family evidence in my appeal bundle.”
Mohamed A.
“The marriage certificate and the travel document were translated together and the names matched across both, which is what the entry clearance officer queried on my first attempt.”
Fatima S.

Frequently asked questions
DHCTranslations prepares certified English translations of Somali records for clients across the UK, working from scans or phone photographs sent through the secure portal. District certificates, court declarations and travel documents are all handled, and the finished PDF arrives with a signed certification page.
A single Somali certificate starts from £40 per document, and longer files are priced from £0.09 per word after 400 words. Notarisation and apostille are quoted as a separate item, as the fee varies by document. The Somali figure is confirmed before any translation work begins. The £0.09 rate is for translation into English; English into Somali starts from £0.10 per word.
Same-day completion is available for most Somali documents when the order and cleared payment are confirmed before 4pm on a working day. Confirmations after that, and weekend or bank holiday orders, begin the next working day, and the quote states the deadline.
The translation reports what you actually hold - a court declaration, a hospital slip, an elder's statement or a district letter - and says who issued it. We do not present a declaration as a civil-registry certificate, because that would mislead the receiving body.
Somali naming runs given name, father's name, grandfather's name, so there is no family surname. We fix one spelling of each element for the whole order, use the passport form where one exists, and add a note explaining the structure so a caseworker can match the names to the application.
Yes. Mandate refugee certificates, asylum-seeker registration documents and status letters are translated in full, including issue office, dates and reference numbers, with the document type described accurately.
Usually yes. Many are written in blue pen on printed forms, with stamps that have faded or partly overprinted. We translate the legible text, note what is unclear, and describe the stamp instead of inventing details.
Yes. Administrative documents often print Somali and Arabic side by side, and some court papers are Arabic only. Both are handled, and any difference between the two language columns is noted in the translation.
Yes. UK ENIC assesses what you provide, including certificates issued before 1991 or from regional authorities. We translate the certificate as issued with the school, region and year intact, and explain the marking scheme rather than converting it.
Yes, but not the Somali original: an FCDO apostille goes on a UK-issued document, or on our translation once a UK notary has certified it. Both are optional extras, priced apart from the translation.
