Court-Ready Certified Translations & Statements of Truth
Foreign-language evidence must be translated before it can be relied on in England and Wales. HM Courts & Tribunals Service expects a certified translation that mirrors the original layout, identifies the translator, and — where the document is evidence — carries a signed Statement of Truth. That declaration is an additional certification layer on top of standard certification, so tell us at quote stage that the translation is for court.
What HMCTS Expects From a Certified Translation
-
Certified Translator: A qualified, independent translator, with credentials and the date of translation shown on the certificate.
-
Signed Statement of Truth: A separate declaration, signed by the translator, confirming the translation is a true and accurate rendering. It is an additional layer, requested for court use.
-
Exhibit Formatting: Layout, stamps, seals and handwritten notes translated where they carry wording and set out in the same order so the exhibit can be cross-referenced.
-
Pagination to the Bundle: Translations paginated to match your bundle index so pages can be inserted without renumbering.
Statement of Truth: An Additional Layer
Standard certification covers most official uses. Court evidence needs the extra declaration, so tell us it is for HM Courts & Tribunals Service.
-
Tell Us at Quote Stage: Confirm the court or tribunal, the hearing date and whether the document is an exhibit.
-
Signed by the Translator: The declaration is drawn up and signed by the qualified translator who completed the work.
-
Notarisation if Needed: Solicitor notarisation and FCDO Apostille can be added when the document is also used abroad.
The Statement of Truth is not issued automatically. It is prepared only when court use has been confirmed.
