    Identity Documents

    Passport and ID Document Translation

A passport translation is usually requested for a visa, a passport application or an identity check, and the receiving authority needs to see the whole bio page, not just the photo and number. Translations cover the machine-readable zone, issue and expiry dates, place of birth, authority codes, visas, entry stamps and any handwritten annotations.

    What the Translation Covers

    • Bio Page in Full: Name, nationality, date and place of birth, passport number, issue and expiry dates, and the machine-readable zone are all translated.

    • Visas, Stamps and Endorsements: Entry and exit stamps, visa labels and handwritten endorsements are translated, or described in plain English where the entry is not text.

    • Certification Page: the translator's name, credentials, date and a signed statement of accuracy for passports.

    • Identity Consistency: The spelling of names and numbers is kept consistent with the rest of your application.

    Before You Order

A few details decide how the passport translation should be prepared.

    • Who Will Receive It: UKVI, HM Passport Office, a bank or an employer each expect slightly different presentation.

    • Every Page: Send the bio page, the reverse, and any page carrying a visa, stamp or endorsement.

    • Apostille or Notarisation: Only needed if the passport copy is also used outside the UK.

Send a photo first if you are unsure which pages carry stamps.

    Frequently asked questions

DHCTranslations translates passport bio pages, identity cards and travel stamps into English for UKVI, HM Passport Office and visa applications. Every passport translation is issued with a signed certification page and returned as a PDF, with same-day completion available when the order and cleared payment are confirmed before 4pm on a working day.

Passport and ID document translation starts at £40 per document, with longer documents priced from £0.09 per word after 400 words. Notarisation on passports orders is quoted separately, because the fee depends on the document and the notary's availability.

Most passport translations are returned the same day when the order and cleared payment are confirmed before 4pm on a working day, which covers urgent visa or travel deadlines. Delivery for passports is confirmed in the quote before payment.

Yes. The translation includes the company details, translator name and credentials, date and a signed statement of accuracy, which is the format UK Visas and Immigration asks for on passports.

No. Translate the bio page and any page carrying a visa, stamp or endorsement that supports your application. Blank pages do not need translating, but send them as scans so the caseworker can see the full document.

No. Self-translations and translations by family members are not accepted by UKVI or HM Passport Office. The translation must come from an independent translator or agency with credentials HM Passport Office can check.

No. Clear scans or photographs of every relevant page are enough, including the reverse and any stamps. Your passports originals stay with you, and the certified translation comes back as a PDF.

Yes. The machine-readable zone, stamps, seals and handwritten annotations are translated where they carry wording and set out in the same order, so the receiving authority can compare the translation with the original page by page.

Usually not for UK use. An FCDO Apostille or notarisation is only needed when the translated passport is used abroad or another authority asks for legalisation, and is quoted separately.

Yes. Send the best scan you have. Damaged or partly illegible pages are translated as far as possible, and any unreadable section is marked and explained in plain English so the receiving authority can see what could not be read.
