What a certified Sinhala translation costs
Certified translations start at £40 per document: from £0.09 per word after the first 400 words into English, and from £0.10 per word for English into another language, with some pairs quoted higher.
Notarisation, where the receiving body asks for it, is quoted separately because it depends on the document and on notary availability.
FCDO apostille is available with our Express Service (usually 6-7 working days) or Urgent Service (usually 3-4 working days). Both are estimates: the real time depends on the document, the language pair and the level of certification, and is confirmed in your quote.

Certified Sinhala translations for UK desks
Every Sinhala order carries a certification page naming the translator, the language pair and the date, with the Sinhala spelling of each name shown beside the English one.
What every Sinhala order includes
- Signed statement of accuracy: the translator's name, signature and date, their CIOL or ITI membership number, our company stamp and our contact details.
- Columns compared: where the English column on a trilingual certificate differs from the Sinhala, the difference is noted rather than smoothed away.
- Ge names explained: where a hereditary house name sits among the given names, a note identifies each element so the UK form is filled correctly.
- PDF and post: the certified PDF is emailed at no extra cost; printed copies are optional, by first class or tracked post.

Sinhala: three languages on one certificate
Sri Lankan certificates print Sinhala, Tamil and English on the same form, and the Sinhala column is what a translator works from. Each row pairs a record with the Sinhala wording printed on it.

Where the English column on a trilingual certificate disagrees with the Sinhala, the Sinhala is translated and the difference is noted rather than smoothed over. That discrepancy is what UK caseworkers query.
What our clients say
Rated 4.9/5 from 314 verified reviews for Home Office applications, court-ready Statements of Truth and UK ENIC submissions.
“The translator noticed the English column disagreed with the Sinhala spelling of my name and noted it, which is exactly what stopped my application being returned.”
Kasun P.
“The clearance came back with the reference and issue date clear, and the visa application went through without a request for a newer one.”
Nadeesha F.
“My A Level results and university transcript were translated together with the grading explained, and UK ENIC accepted the file first time.”
Sanduni D.

Frequently asked questions
DHCTranslations prepares certified English translations of Sinhala and Tamil records for clients across the UK, working from scans or clear photographs sent through the secure portal. Registrar General certificates, police clearances and university documents are all handled, and the finished PDF arrives with a signed certification page.
A single Sri Lankan certificate starts from £40 per document, and longer files are priced from £0.09 per word after 400 words. Notarisation and apostille are listed as separate charges, as the notary and FCDO fees depend on the document. The Sinhala figure is confirmed in writing before work begins. The £0.09 rate is for translation into English; English into Sinhala starts from £0.10 per word.
Same-day completion is available for most Sinhala documents when the order and cleared payment are confirmed before 4pm on a working day. Confirmations later than that, weekend orders and bank holidays move to the next working day, and the quote gives the date.
Usually yes, because a certified English translation with a signed statement of accuracy is what UK bodies ask for, and the printed English column rarely covers every entry. Where that column disagrees with the Sinhala text, we translate the Sinhala and note the difference.
It is a hereditary house or family name that often sits among the given names in Sinhala records. UK forms have nowhere obvious to put it, so we translate it in place and add a note naming each element of the name.
The certificate states its own issue date and reference, and UK bodies apply their own currency rules for visas and employment. Both are reproduced in the translation so the receiving office can judge, and neither is altered.
Yes. UK ENIC assesses the qualifications, but the certificates need the school, subjects, grades and marking scheme intact. We explain the Sri Lankan marking system rather than converting grades into UK equivalents.
Initials are common and often stand for names that appear in full elsewhere in the file. We keep the initials as printed, expand them only where another document on the same order gives the full form, and note which document supplied it.
Usually yes. Copies issued from older registers are handwritten with a divisional secretariat stamp that is sometimes faint. We translate what is legible, describe the stamp, and say plainly where an entry cannot be read.
Yes, but not the Sri Lankan original: an FCDO apostille goes on a UK-issued document, or on our translation once a UK notary has certified it. The London notarisation comes first and the apostille attaches to those pages, with each step priced separately.
