Certified translations in Belfast
Belfast is the one part of the UK where the court system is not run by HMCTS. Northern Ireland's courts are administered by the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service, and the structure differs: the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland, at the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast, handles High Court and appeal work, while county court and magistrates' court business is dealt with through local court offices. Northern Ireland also has its own Coroners Service and its own Enforcement of Judgments Office.
Because of that, a translation prepared for a Belfast filing is written to the requirement of the office holding the file rather than to an England and Wales template. Every pack is returned with a complete translation, the translator's details, the date and the certification wording the office has asked for, and where the court wants a Statement of Truth it is prepared as a separate, separately priced addition.
The language picture is different from most English cities. The census for Northern Ireland reports language nationally rather than by council area: Polish is the most common non-English main language at 1.1%, Lithuanian follows at 0.5%, and Romanian and Irish sit at 0.3% each. Certificates in all of them arrive from Belfast addresses, alongside Portuguese and Arabic documents in family and employment files.
Registration work goes through the Belfast Registration Office at Belfast City Hall, and documents for Belfast City Council departments, correction applications and Home Office identity evidence are certified the same way. Degrees for Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University are certified for UK ENIC, and because a Northern Ireland document is a UK document, a certified translation that needs legalising goes to the FCDO Legalisation Office after any required notarisation by a notary in Northern Ireland.

What our clients say
Rated 4.9/5 from 314 verified reviews for Home Office applications, court-ready Statements of Truth and UK ENIC submissions.
“The 12-to--3 scale was explained step by step instead of being converted, and the university accepted it without a follow-up.”
Freja S.
“The certificate and the identity card carried the same registration number, and the translator showed how the Cyrillic prefix fitted the father's name on my passport.”
Battulga A.
“The diploma and its annex kept the subject list and marks, and the patronymic note stopped the university filing my father's name as a middle name.”
Karen A.

Ten questions clients in County Antrim ask before ordering a certified translation.
DHCTranslations handles certified translations for Belfast clients remotely, and every document is prepared to the requirements of the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service, Belfast City Council and UK ENIC. A Belfast document is uploaded through the secure portal and returned as a certified PDF, with same-day completion available when the order and payment are confirmed before 4pm on a working day.
A single Belfast certificate costs from £40 per document. Multi-page files are priced from £0.09 per word after 400 words, which is how a university transcript or a court bundle is costed. Every Belfast quote is confirmed in writing before translation starts.

Northern Ireland's courts are administered by the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service, not HMCTS. The Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland, at the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast, hears the High Court and appeal work, while county court and magistrates' court business is dealt with locally. Tell us which office is dealing with the file.
Northern Ireland's courts and court offices set their own requirements, so the wording follows what the office has asked for rather than an England and Wales template. A Statement of Truth is an add-on rather than part of standard certification, charged separately and priced to the requirements of the case.
Yes. Certificates issued through the Belfast Registration Office at Belfast City Hall, and documents used in correction applications or with Belfast City Council departments, are handled routinely, including cases where a name or date was recorded differently in two records.
Yes. Belfast, Lisburn, Newtownabbey, Bangor, Carrickfergus and the rest of Northern Ireland are served remotely, with no office visit needed. Tracked post is available for any client who needs a wet-signed copy sent to a home or business address.
Northern Ireland's census publishes language at national level rather than by council area. Polish is the most common non-English main language at 1.1%, ahead of Lithuanian at 0.5%, with Romanian and Irish at 0.3% each, and documents in all of them reach us from Belfast addresses.
Yes. Degrees, transcripts and diploma supplements from Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University are certified for UK ENIC statements of comparability and for professional registration with the GMC, NMC and HCPC, with the award and classification reproduced exactly as the institution recorded them.
Yes. A document issued in Northern Ireland is a UK document, so it goes to the FCDO Legalisation Office like any other. Where a notary is needed first, GOV.UK lists notaries in Northern Ireland. We prepare and certify the translation; the notary and the apostille are arranged and charged separately.
