CV and Curriculum Vitae Translation

Translation of a CV or curriculum vitae into English for a job application, a recruiter or an admissions office, with a signed certification page added only when an official body needs one.

A CV translated in full: the employment history, dates, job titles, qualifications, skills and any referees, kept in the order the CV already uses. A plain translation is what most job applications need, and a certified version costs the same where an employer or an official body asks for one. From £40 per CV.

What a CV Translation Covers, and When It Needs Certifying

A CV is considered by someone deciding whether to interview you, so the translation follows the layout you already use. One thing has to be settled before it starts: whether the certified page is needed, which depends on who asked you for the translation.

    What the translation covers

    • Employment History: each role with its title, employer, location and dates, including a post held abroad where the CV records the country rather than a city.

    • Qualifications: schools, universities and professional awards with the grades and dates as written, and the grading system explained where it differs from the British one.

    • Job Titles: a title is translated to the nearest equivalent a British employer would recognise, with the original in brackets where the equivalent would overstate the role.

    • Referees and Contact Details: names, addresses and phone numbers carried across exactly, because a recruiter uses them to make contact rather than to weigh up the wording.

    Before you order

The one thing to tell us up front is whether it has to be certified.

    • If an Employer Asked: a plain translation is normally enough, and no certification page is added to the file.

    • If an Official Body Asked: a visa application, a licensing body or an admissions office may want the signed page, so say so and it goes behind the translation.

    • Length: a two-page CV sits at the minimum fee, and a long academic CV running past 400 words is priced from £0.09 per word into English.

Send the file you would give an employer, and say whether it needs to be certified.

Prices are per document and start at £40 — see what a translation costs.

    Frequently asked questions

DHCTranslations translates CVs and curriculum vitae into English for job applications, recruiters and admissions offices, and emails the finished translation as a PDF within the timeframe confirmed in your quote.

£40 for a CV of up to 400 words, which covers most two-page CVs. Past that the rate is £0.09 per word into English, and translation from English into another language is from £0.10 per word.

Only if an official body has asked for one. A hiring manager does not need a certificate, while a visa caseworker, a licensing body or an admissions office may, and you will usually have been told which applies.

A signed page naming the translator, the languages and the date, printed behind the translation. The CV itself is translated identically either way, so the certificate changes who will accept it, not what it says.

No. The CV is translated as written and in the order you wrote it, because changing the structure would alter a document you may later be asked to produce in its original form.

Yes, and it is common. Sections already written in English are kept as they stand and the rest is translated, so the finished CV reads as one document rather than a mixture of two.

A two-page CV confirmed before 4pm on a working day is usually returned the same day. A long academic CV takes longer, and the date in your quote is an estimate rather than a promise.

Yes, and they are priced by word count rather than by page. Publication titles stay in their original language with the journal or publisher translated, since a citation has to remain traceable.

Usually yes. Order the certified version and it covers both uses, because the certificate sits behind the translation instead of replacing it.

A Word or PDF file is easiest, and a photograph of a printed CV is accepted if it is flat and legible. Send the version you would give an employer.
