Deed Poll Translation
A deed poll is short, and its whole purpose is to connect two names. The translation therefore has to reproduce the former name, the new name, the date of the declaration and the signature block exactly as they appear, because a caseworker will compare them against your passport, birth certificate and any earlier visa. Anything rendered loosely here becomes a name mismatch somewhere else in the file.
What the Translation Covers
-
Both Names: The former name and the new name as written, with any alternative spellings given beside the name.
-
Declaration and Date: The declaration wording, the date of execution and the place it was made.
-
Signatures and Stamps: Signatures, witness details, notarial certificates and any enrolment stamp from the court.
-
Certification Page: the translator's name, credentials, date and a signed statement of accuracy for deed polls.
Before You Order
Small details decide whether the name chain holds together across your file.
-
Which Deed Poll You Hold: An unenrolled deed poll and an enrolled one look different; send the version you actually have.
-
Documents to Match: Tell us the spelling on your passport, so the translation follows the same form throughout.
-
Overseas Name Changes: Statutory declarations, affidavits and gazette notices are translated the same way as a UK deed poll.
If your name change was published in a gazette or newspaper, send that page too.

Frequently asked questions
DHCTranslations translates UK deed polls and overseas name-change documents into certified English for the Home Office, HM Passport Office, banks and professional registers. The translation is returned with a signed certification page, normally the next working day.
A deed poll is priced from £40 per document, with longer name-change packs charged from £0.09 per word after 400 words. Notarisation is quoted separately if the receiving body requests it.
Because a deed poll is one page, most can be completed the same day when the order and cleared payment are confirmed before 4pm on a working day. Name-change packs that also include a gazette notice or a statutory declaration are quoted with a combined delivery date.
Yes. UKVI needs an independent translation with a signed statement of accuracy and traceable translator details, and every deed poll order includes those. Check the current guidance for the application you are making.
It is a formal declaration, made by deed, that a person has changed their name. In the UK it can be unenrolled and kept privately, or enrolled with the King's Bench Division of the High Court, which creates a public record of the change.
Yes. Statutory declarations, affidavits, ministerial decisions, civil-registry name-change records and gazette notices are all translated, provided the original is legible. We translate the document as issued rather than replacing it with a UK template.
Both are translated exactly as written, including transliteration where the original is not written in the Latin alphabet. If a document shows two spellings of the same name, we keep both and flag the difference rather than choosing one silently.
That depends on what the receiving body asks for; enrolment is a court process and is not required for most UK purposes. We translate whichever version you hold, and the certification describes it as enrolled or unenrolled as printed.
No. A clear scan or photograph of the signed page, including the witness or notarial details, is enough. Keep the original and we will return the certified English version as a PDF.
Yes, and more directly than for a foreign document. A UK deed poll is a UK document, so the FCDO can apostille it as it stands, or apostille a notarised copy if a notary has certified it. If the name change was made abroad, legalisation is normally handled in that country instead.
