    Medium of Instruction Translation

An MOI letter is usually a single page, and almost all of its value sits in one sentence: the statement that the programme was taught and assessed in English. Universities, UK ENIC and regulators also need to see which programme that sentence applies to, the dates of study and the office that signed it, so the translation keeps the letter intact rather than extracting the sentence.

    What the Translation Covers

    • Full Letter: Letterhead, reference number, addressee, body text and signature block, in the order they appear.

    • Programme Details: Course title, faculty, institution and the dates of study the statement refers to.

    • Seals and Signatures: Registrar or controller of examinations signature, institutional seal and any stamp are translated and described.

    • Certification Page: the translator's name, credentials, date and a signed statement of accuracy for medium-of-instruction letters.

    Before You Order

An MOI is short, so the details around the sentence are what decide whether it is accepted.

    • Who Will Receive It: An admissions office, UK ENIC and a regulator each look for different things in the same letter.

    • The Wording That Matters: The sentence naming the medium of instruction and the programme it covers is translated exactly, not paraphrased.

    • Not an English Test: An MOI is not a proficiency certificate, and a translation cannot turn it into one.

If your letter is a consolidated version covering a whole cohort, send it as issued.

    Frequently asked questions

DHCTranslations translates MOI letters and medium of instruction certificates into certified English for UK admissions, UK ENIC and professional registration. Each letter is translated in full and returned with a signed certification page, usually the next working day.

An MOI letter is priced from £40 per document. Letters that run past 400 words are charged from £0.09 per word, and notarisation is quoted separately if the receiving body asks for it.

Most MOI letters can be completed the same day when the order and cleared payment are confirmed before 4pm on a working day because they are short. If an admissions deadline is close, tell us the date when you request the quote and we will confirm whether it can be met.

That depends on the university, which sets its own evidence rules, and on whether the translation is independent and carries a signed accuracy statement. We provide the certified translation; the admissions office decides whether an MOI is acceptable evidence. Check its guidance before you apply.

It is a letter from a school, college or university confirming that a programme was taught and assessed in a particular language, usually English. It is normally issued by the registrar or controller of examinations and carries a reference number, the dates of study and an institutional seal.

The letterhead and institution name, the reference number, the addressee, the statement naming the medium of instruction, the programme and dates it covers, the signature block and the seal. We keep them in the original order so a caseworker can read the two documents side by side.

Yes. MOI letters reach us in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Chinese, Turkish, French and Portuguese among others, and some are issued bilingually with English. Where a letter is partly in English already, the non-English content is still translated and the whole letter is certified.

No. A translation confirms what the letter says; it does not test your English and cannot substitute for a SELT or a degree-taught-in-English assessment. Whether an MOI satisfies an English requirement is a decision for the university, UK ENIC or the regulator, not for the translator.

No. A clear scan or photograph of the page, including the letterhead, the signature and the seal, is enough. Keep the paper original and we will return the certified English version as a PDF.

Yes, if the receiving body asks. Notarisation is arranged on the English version, and the FCDO then legalises that copy. The FCDO acts only on UK documents or those a UK notary has certified, so an overseas original is normally legalised in the country that issued it.
